JELLY BEAN COOKIES

First you make the sugar cookie dough. You can use your favorite recipe, or this one:

¾ cup butter 2 ½ cups flour

1 cup sugar 1 teaspoon baking powder

2 eggs 1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla

Mix the things on the left and the things on the right separately, then mix them all together. Get the dough cold in the refrigerator.

Heat the oven to 400°. Open the door first to make sure nobody left something in there.    Take a piece of dough and roll it into a ball. Put the balls on a cookie sheet. Dip the bottom of a drinking glass in flour. Use the glass to smash the ball flat. Keep dipping and smashing.

The jelly beans are Jelly Bellys. Those are my favorite. You can buy a lot of them at Costco or another store like that.

Put the jelly beans on top. You can use 3 or 4 or 5. Don’t push them in. Bake the cookies for about 8 minutes.

When the cookies come out of the oven, take them off the cookie sheet quickly. Otherwise they will stick on there like glue. If you want to try a cookie before it’s all the way cooled off, just be sure you have good teeth. You’ll get about 48 cookies, depending how much dough you eat.
